FunForLab SWOT Event

At Brightlands Chemelot Campus

On 23 November 2021, the Funforlab research met with its various target audiences in the EMR as part of an interregional SWOT analysis. The event took place at the Brightlands Chemelot campus of the Zuyd- Hogeschool in Sittard-Geleen in the Netherlands in compliance with the health restrictions in place but could also be reached online.

A brief introduction on the Funforlab project was presented by Dr. Annabelle Lejeune (HELMo, Liège, Belgium) followed by an enlightening overview “From serious gaming to immersive learning; Unlocking the potential of virtual reality for education” given by Dr. Stephane Grade (CECOTEPE – EPAMU – HEPL, Liège, Belgium).

After these talks, the participants could join Funforlab SWOT sessions according to their region/native language either via Zoom for online participants or in different campus locations for face-to-face participants. These SWOT sessions gave secondary school pupils and teachers, MLT students, MLT teachers and MLT professionals from the EMR region the opportunity to give their opinion on the MLT training, MLT profession and design of the Funforlab games. The gathered information is essential and relevant to the construction of the game, but also to improve the MLT-training and the promotion of this paramedical profession, which is little known to the public.

About 50 MLT students, 15 MLT teachers and 3 MLT professionals from the EMR were present on the Brightlands Chemelot campus. They were exchanging and sharing experience with the participants from the other EMR regions and immersed themselves in a first draft of the medical laboratory of the Funforlab game through virtual reality.

Simultaneously, another 150 MLT students, 10 MLT teachers and 3 MLT professionals from the EMR gave their opinion online on the MLT profession and formation in the EMR and on the design of the Funforlab game.

Each partner of the FUNFORLAB project is currently analyzing these various inputs. First proposals of games scenario and future tracks to improve the promotion of the profession of Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), the quality of training and cross-border mobility in the EMR are coming soon.
